There's something about a t-shirt quilt...
Posted by Dionne Sandiford on
When I make a t-shirt or memory quilt, I try to use every part of the t-shirt. This one was made for a lady who asked me to make one for her grandson. Her son died and left behind an 8-year-old son.
The picture in the lower corner is of the two of them, and the shirt the Dad is wearing was used as a panel in the quilt.
This is so touching because my Mom died when I was 6-years-old and I wish someone had the mindset to do something dear like this for me.
When I returned the t-shirts in the new form of a quilt, my client cried. (I don’t do well when a person cries.) She was so appreciative and said I gave her a gift that her grandson can cherish forever. He sleep with the quilt on his bed every night. This is her own post from her Facebook account:
"Palmer loves the quilt so much and he liked your letter. He jumped onto the middle of the quilt and I told him it was like a big hug from his Dad... I thank you again from the bottom of my heart for the love and understanding you put into creating this beautiful keepsake. Your friend, Jane."
When I started doing memory quilts, I did not want people to think that I was capitalizing on their grief. This customer said that I give people joy and a way to remember their loved ones. She encouraged me to continue working on my craft and to continue bringing people joy in this unique way.
This is why I do what I do… I am grateful to God for my gift and talent for sewing! I get to do something I love and also earn a living. Thank you for reading my post!
